Tuba City EMS is stationed at the Tuba City Indian Medical Center (TCIMC). Under the Memorandum of Agreement, TCIMC provides the office space and supplies for the ambulance service.
Not only do they deal with medical emergencies, they are also cross-trained in different areas such as Rope Rescue, Search and Rescue, Hazardous Materials and Vehicle Extrication.
There are many major highways used by tourists visiting attractions like Grand Canyon, Marble Canyon/Less Ferry, Lake Powell/Glen Canyon Dam, Antelope Point, Four Corners, Canyon de Chelly, etc
Due to this, our office has a high call volume with an average of 150 emergency calls per month.
We operate on a 24 hour/7 days a week schedule. Tuba City EMS provides coverage to various chapters such as Tuba City, Cameron, Bodaway/Gap, Tonalea, Rocky Ridge, Coalmine and Copper Mine. We also respond to Graymountain, and the checkerboard Reservation Southwest of Graymountain.
There are four CPR Instructors and 1 First Aid Instructor at the Tuba City EMS Field Office. They provide CPR and 1st Aid training to the community. Other personnel are in the process of obtaining their instructor cards.
We have three ambulances at this Field Office to provide emergency response when backup is needed. All ambulances use diesel fuel that enables us to respond long distances before having to refuel. This is an advantage to us because some response times to a scene is an hour from the Tuba City Indian Medical Center.
